| Why Here? |
| Girls growing up in the North State today experience a region undergoing tremendous growth and change, increasing needs and stretching resources to the limits. Risk factors for girls in our communities include low median household incomes, high rates of adolescent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infection, low rates of educational achievement, increasing rates of substance abuse, and exposure to violence in and outside the home. While many valuable resources are available to girls in Shasta and Tehama counties, supporters of Girls Inc. know more gender-specific programs and opportunities are needed to educate and inspire girls. |
