Girls Inc. Honors Your Trust

Watch this special video message from Joyce Roché, Girls Inc. President and CEO, to learn how we are honoring the passion, commitment, and funds you have invested in Girls Inc.

Girls have big dreams and bold plans for the future. It is our job to make those dreams come true. Girls need access to Girls Inc. in order to become the women we know they can be.

WHAT MAKES GIRLS INC DIFFERENT

  • Girls Inc. programming:

  • is delivered by professionally-trained facilitators, rather than volunteers who may not have the time or the training to offer excellent programs.
  • focuses on gender equity, inspiring girls to be strong, smart & bold, and key issues like pregnancy prevention, rather than general youth development and “safer” topics.
  • involves the participation of girls on a regular basis where they can engage in longterm relationships with facilitators and other girls, rather than meeting once a week for an hour
    or so.
  • is comprehensive, including modules that develop across four age groups, building on learning from one area to another, rather than organized in short-term activities related to a variety of topics.
  • is based on high-quality, longitudinal, national evaluation research, rather than only local evaluation of program quality.
  • includes role modeling and mentoring as key components where older girls connect with younger girls, rather than groups segregated by age.
  • provides opportunities for girls to work with a number of adults with a variety of skills, rather than limiting the adults involved to the same one or two people over time.
  • reaches many girls (of color and from low-income families) who would be left out of enrichment programs otherwise.

Emily is looking forward to expanding programs and increasing community awareness in the coming months, as well as being able to positively contribute to the Sacramento Valley region, which she calls home.

“The Sacramento Valley is a region that has changed considerably in my lifetime. We know girls thrive in programs that are designed for girls only, giving them the adult and peer support they need to face the many challenges and pressures that arise in adolescence.” – Emily Westphal

The Board of Directors meets each month on the fourth Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Message from the President:

president

The Girls Inc. program was first introduced to me by a question, “When you were growing up who were the women who influenced you to be strong, smart and bold?”  What a wonderful exercise that was for me! Beginning with my mother and sisters, I then moved onto teachers, neighbors, aunts, babysitters, scout leaders, Sunday school leaders and the list even continued into my college years.  Wow, I was really lucky growing up. I had a community of women who cared enough about me to help shape my character.

To me that is what Girls Inc. is all about.  Please join us as we seek to make a difference in our area girls who need women to support them in building confidence and self-worth; to guide them in making responsible and smart decisions; to feel valued and experience success.  Who knows, you just might appear on someone’s “You made a difference in my life” list!

~ Rev. Patty Bourne
